Macaroni Mini Fixed Blade, CPM154 Steel

The thing about serendipity is that by its very definition you can't keep relying on it. My original Macaroni was an offcut knife, made from left over scraps of steel from larger models. That's not always going to be available, especially as my ever-greater achievements in planning and efficiency (read: being cheap) result in less waste steel.

But they turned out to be popular and I wanted to make more, and I wanted to make them better. Thus came about the peculiar turn of events wherein I had to deliberately go out and buy steel for the express purpose of making knives designed to be offcut saviors.

Man, this gig is weird sometimes.

Anyway, this Macaroni is new and improved, and if I could be bothered I'd put that in a little yellow starburst on the package, with a friendly cursive font and a drop shadow and everything. At its root, the Macaroni is purposefully absurd, being a diminutive 3-3/8" (86mm) long with a 1-7/8" blade (48mm) which is nevertheless a ludicrous 1/4" thick. (That's 6mm or so, if you must know.)

And now these are made out of high quality CPM154 stainless steel which is, yes, significantly more corrosion resistant than the old model and thus basically worry free.

The best way to think of the Macaroni is as a non-folding folder. Its radiused wedge shaped profile is extremely robust, and the thickness ensures it will be near as makes no difference to unbreakable in normal terrestrial use. The large finger cutout and two-bolt dismountable 3D printed handle are such that you can achieve a three finger grip and combine to make it surprisingly ergonomic. Each is provided in a Kydex sheath with a reinforced polymer belt clip that's basically the length of the entire assembly itself, which means the Macaroni will ride unobtrusively on your belt or backpack strap or wherever else you want to keep it until it's needed.
